5 Tips for the New Year by Dr. Keener

With a New Year comes the New Year’s resolutions. Millions of people set New Year’s resolutions, however, it has been shown that up to 80% of resolutions will fail by the second week of February. A significant amount of people set a goal of being healthier and losing weight. Whatever your resolution is this year, below are five tips to help you keep and reach your goals that you have set out to conquer in 2022.

1. Set a Realistic and Specific Goal

The biggest reason that people fail with their resolutions is that they set unrealistic and broad goals. Be specific with your goal so that you know what you are working to achieve. Also, be sure to be realistic. If you are not realistic, then you will never be able to achieve your goal and will get easily discouraged very quickly. For example, instead of “this year I would like to be healthier” switch to “this year I will work out three times a week.”

2. Reward Yourself

It is important to celebrate small milestones that you achieve throughout your journey. By rewarding yourself for small milestones you will stay motivated to keep going and achieve the next milestone. For example, if your ultimate goal is to lose 20 pounds, then reward yourself with a massage or some new workout clothes when you lose the first 5 pounds.

3. Plan Ahead

You should begin to think about your resolutions well ahead of the date that you are starting. For example, if your goal is to eat a healthier diet, you need to have ample amount of time to stock your kitchen with healthy ingredients. You also will need some time to research healthier meals that you can make to help with your goal. If the time has already gone by to start planning ahead for January 1st, don’t be ashamed to pick another date or month.

4. Don’t Beat Yourself Up

Life happens when you aren’t expecting it. The journey to get to your goal that you set is not going to be smooth sailing. You are going to have challenges and you are also going to have slip ups. Obsessing over the slip ups that you have will not help with achieving your ultimate goal. When a slip up happens, get back on track and keep moving forward towards your goal!

5. Tell people about your goal

Having a support system is going to be a key part of reaching your goal. If you don’t tell people about the goal that you have then they won’t know how they could be helping you achieve that goal. By letting your friends and families know about your goal, they will help you achieve your goal by being a support system for you.

Setting and obtaining New Year’s resolutions can be tough. Hopefully these tips will help you out in your journey and if you would like any advice, then please reach out to us at the EuDoc family and we would love to help you!
