Frequently Asked Questions

Direct Primary Care Basics

  • Concierge practices offer greater access and a higher level of service than the traditional office. In exchange, they have high membership prices, tie you into long term contracts, and bill your insurance each visit. We believe concierge level care is simply good primary care and should be accessible to everyone. Our practice model is called direct primary care and offers exceptional primary care without long term contracts or double-dipping (membership plus insurance billing). One flat monthly membership fee covers all in-person and virtual visits.

  • We see everyone regardless of insurance status.

For those with regular health insurance: Insurance can still be used for labs, imaging, medications, and specialists. With our competitive member prices, many patients end up spending less on labs, imaging, and medication without using their insurance. Insurance works best for big, catastrophic events like hospitalizations. Our membership pairs well with a high deductible plan.

For those with a health share: Many health shares offer discounts for members with a direct primary care practice. Check with your health share to see if you apply.

Uninsured: We strongly recommend everyone have some sort of insurance or health share. However, if you are unable to do so, we will still see you and provide high level primary care.

  • Better Care: Insurance-based primary care practices require their physicians to see 20-40 patients a day and spend valuable time worrying how to bill the visits. Our visits are longer, start on time, and focus only on you.

Reduced Cost: Insurance-based practices need a large staff to handle the complicated insurance billing. We do not have a back office full of staff who only exist to process insurance claims, allowing us to make our monthly fee about the price of a cup of coffee a day.

Improved Access: Many people are still uninsured, or worse, they have insurance but avoid seeing a doctor because the deductible is too high. Office visits are always available for the fixed monthly fee, without co-pays or “administrative fees." You can also keep your doctor regardless of what employment or insurance changes may happen.

  • We pair well with most insurances, especially high deductible plans, and we recommend everyone have insurance or a health share plan for catastrophic events such as traumas or severe illness requiring hospitalization. Insurance works really well for the rare, expensive event, but creates unnecessary complexity and cost for primary care services. After all, you don’t use your car insurance for oil changes or to fill up your gas. Why use health insurance on primary care?

  • We believe building long term relationships with patients has many benefits, but we understand finding the right doctor for you is very important and we don’t want to force you to stay in a mismatched situation. Our membership goes month to month and there are no traps to keep you longer than you want to stay. We would appreciate a 14 day notice prior to unsubscribing.

  • Direct primary care (DPC) is quickly becoming the norm in states like Colorado, Texas, Florida, and more. There are currently over 1,000 practices in 49 states and the number is growing rapidly. Virginia alone has seen 1-2 new DPC practices per year over the last 5 years. We are the first in Chesterfield County. Each practice is independently owned by physicians who are all driven to remove barriers which stand between us and our patients in order to provide the best care possible.
