We’re a little different… by Dr. Q

In the 90s, when my family wanted to watch a movie, we would make a drive to Blockbuster, look around the store, and bring home a rental which we would watch, rewind, and return on time to avoid late fees. Today, if I want to watch a movie, I turn on my computer or TV, open Netflix and watch whatever movie I want from their entire collection. Almost everyone experiences media through streaming services now and no one would even dream of recreating the Blockbuster experience of making people go out and rent movies. Netflix fundamentally changed not just how people paid for TV and movies, they changed how we interact with media. At EuDoc, our direct primary care model does the same. We are bringing a Netflix level change to today’s antiquated Blockbuster approach to primary care.

One of the most profound innovations Netflix brought to media was changing the payment structure to a subscription model. At Blockbuster, you only had possession of the movie you paid for. Today’s Netflix let’s you functionally own every movie in their collection. The traditional doctor’s office allows you to have one problem addressed at a time for a fee, an often confusing fee with all sorts of add-ons which are as frustrating as late fees used to be. Our subscription based service allows you to have all of our services available when you need it- chronic care, acute care, telemedicine - without any extra fees or hassle.

Netflix also made media so much more convenient to access. Instead of driving to a store, searching for a show, and checking out, we can now just tap an app and start watching. You’ve probably left a doctor’s office at one point thinking the visit could have easily been handled with a text or email. You may have also had to go in just to get lab results when a quick call would have sufficed. This happens because the traditional doctor’s office only makes money when you walk in the door. Our membership includes telemedicine, which means you can message, call, or video call your doctor from wherever you are, and we handle the simple issues and communication over phone or text to make your experience more convenient.

By making movies and TV easily accessible at an affordable, predictable price, Netflix created a whole new culture of how we interact with media, giving rise to “binge watching”.  At EuDoc, we want to create a new culture of how you interact with your doctor. So many people “don’t really go to the doctor” because their experience has been the current, outdated Blockbuster experience - inconvenient, confusingly expensive, and frustrating. Instead, they would rather turn to Google or social media to answer any questions or concerns they have about their health. Our members know they can easily contact me or Dr. Keener with any health concerns they have, no matter how seemingly small. We also answer questions our members send us about things they read online, saw on TV, or were told by friends or family. When it comes to your health, you deserve having a professional you can trust and access.

The confusion and misinformation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic highlights the inadequacy of today’s traditional doctor’s office. People either couldn’t access their doctor or they didn’t even have a doctor they trusted to begin with. Our mission to bring accessible, affordable care to the Midlothian community and beyond comes from seeing how our current system has failed our community and wanting to make it right. We are the Netflix of primary care in an environment where Blockbuster is still the norm and we invite you to experience the difference.
